Who we are

Chafong Lee Foundation has obtained federal exemption, and its goals are to preserve, restore and educate the public about Hmong History; to teach the younger generation about the Hmong Culture, art and music, and to provide Hmong students with scholarships and grants for higher education. The foundation has made improvements to leased property to provide a Hmong museum and display Hmong artifacts, crafts and its many rich history. The property will be available for rent to provide classes and cultural study of Hmong arts and crafts in the near future.

The Chafong Lee Foundation (CFLF) would like to help advance international dialogue, understanding, and respect through cultural activities in the United States to create a space for cultural preservation. CFLF would like to accomplish this mission through grants for the Hmong What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Grant Programs

Higher Education Grant Program - $10,000 / Annual Budget

The amount of grants awarded annually is based on college type

· Community/Vocational College              $500         

· State College                                               $1000

· University College                                       $2000

The 2025 CFLF Student Grant Program application period is now closed. The application deadline was December 6, 2024. Grant award notification emails will be sent to all applicants by March 31, 2025.

The Higher Education Gran Program provides monies to help students pay school-related expenses. The program is only open to persons of Hmong decent who are pursuing a post-high school education at a community college, university/college, vocational/technical school, or advanced professional training in the United States.

Information and requirements for the 2026 Student Grant Program will be available in spring 2025.

Hmong Cultural Arts Grant Program – $6,000 / Annual Budget

The amount of grants awarded annually is based on art forms.

Grant ranges from $500-$2500.

·Dance competitions team                      $500

·Pageant contestants individual             $2,500

Note: ASIA normally sponsors 1 contestant for Miss Hmong California - Sacramento and 1 contestant for Miss Hmong Grand International - Fresno

The CFLF Hmong Cultural Arts Grant program provides grants to art forms that are transmitted and engaged as part of the Hmong community. It should showcase the cultural life of the Hmong people, such as common heritage, language, religion, occupation, or region. These expressions are deeply rooted in and reflective of a community’s shared standards of beauty, values, or life experiences. Traditional arts are often passed on from one generation to the next, or from one community member to another, and express collective wisdom, rather than only a unique personal aesthetic.

Each team or group must be made up of at least 75% Hmong. If this is an individual application, said person must be of Hmong decent.

The 2024 CFLF Cultural Arts Grant program application period is now closed. The application deadline was July 31, 2024. Grant award notification emails will be sent to all applicants by August 31, 2024.

Information and requirements for the 2025 Cultural Arts Grant program will be available in the spring of 2025.

Sports Grant Program - $4,000 / Annual Budget

Grant ranges from $100 - $1,000

·Team local competition                    $500

·Team travel competition                    $1000

·Individual varies depending on competition             $100-$1000

Note: ASIA normally sponsors sports competitions during the Hmong Freedom Festival and HNY.

The CFLF Sports Grant Program is available to qualifying families and not-for-profit community-based recreational sports organizations in first-come-first served basis as funds are available. Each team or group must be made up of at least 75% Hmong. If this is an individual application, said person must be of Hmong decent.

The CFLF Youth Sports Grant Program provides funding in hopes of inspiring young Hmong athletes in the community. CFLF aims to assist families who lack the resources to pay for their children’s sports events. Individual grants can be used for registration, equipment and other associated fees for sports classes, recreational leagues, and travel sports.

Who Qualifies?

The grants are open to individuals, organizations, and community groups who are of Hmong decent and/or promoting Hmong groups or Hmong culture.

ALL applicants must fill out an application, which would include a letter of support describing the individual or team and what their intentions are to be considered. All teams must provide a list of names of their team members, to be verified that 75% are Hmong or of Hmong decent.

INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS 

Individual artists can apply for grants to support their practice.

Applicants must:

  • Be based in United States

  • Be an artist or culture bearers rooted in a tradition 

  • Should have Hmong lineage/decent

ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITY GROUPS

Organizations and community groups can apply for funds of $1,000 to support activities.

Eligible organizations must have:

 

  • The average annual revenue/income in the last 3 years is under $100,000 

  • Non-profit status

 

Further eligibility:

Applicants may NOT apply to the CFLF grant program both as an individual and with their organization for different projects. One application will be accepted per individual or group.
